Environmental Policy

Below, we have gathered information about the content of our temporary tattoos, tests we have conducted, and current legislation for cosmetic products in Europe and UK: European Cosmetics Regulation EU 1223/2009, as well as Like Ink’s environmental efforts.

Environmental Efforts
Starting from the year 2022, all environmental issues at Like Ink are managed by a dedicated environmental manager. Through the environmental manager, coordination and integration in the business and with our suppliers, employees, and partners are increased. Like Ink’s environmental efforts, which began at the start in 2014, include projects and activities related to all aspects of the company’s operations.

Like Inks temporary tattoos have always been, and will always be, vegan. This is an important issue for us, and it means that no ingredients are derived from animals, and our products are not tested on animals either. This is also a requirement we impose on our suppliers.

When it comes to the ingredients in our tattoos, we only offer our own skin-safe, vegan tattoos that have been tested according to European Cosmetics Regulation EU 1223/2009 and registered in the CPNP, which is a registry of all cosmetic products on the European market. Being registered in the CPNP is a requirement for a cosmetic product to be allowed on the market. In addition, we have conducted stability tests, durability tests, and chemical tests, showing that our fake tattoos do not contain harmful chemicals and are below current limits. We also have an EN71-3 report (testing according to the toy directive in Europe) and a dermatological test where 50 people (28 healthy individuals, 3 with eczema, 3 with allergies, and 16 with sensitive skin) none of these 50 reacted to the test, which lasted for 14 days. Like Ink’s temporary tattoos currently meet all of the EU’s high requirements for cosmetic products.

This, combined with the choices we have made regarding servers, printing, transport companies, and suppliers of all printed materials we must use, makes us confident in calling our temporary tattoos a very good and safe choice. This applies whether you are looking for eco-friendly promotional materials for indoor and outdoor events, parties, weddings, if you are interested in tattoos, and for all the other exciting things you can use Like Ink’s temporary tattoos tattoos for!

Sustainable materials build the future, and even though Like Ink is a small player in a big world, we choose to make the best possible environmental choices. Below, you can read more about Like Ink’s and our suppliers’ environmental efforts.

Printed Materials
There are significant environmental benefits with the right packaging, envelopes, accompanying letters, packing materials, tape, and decals.

Carbon emissions from the production and transportation of all the paper we purchase are offset through tree planting in Africa. In this way, we contribute an extra straw to counteract the greenhouse effect on our beautiful planet.

There are many environmental certifications for these products, and below we explain what they actually mean.

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council)
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a global non-profit organization with the goal of promoting responsible management of our planet’s forests. FSC defines standards based on principles for responsible forest management that align with environmental, social, and economic interests.

PEFC™ (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification)
PEFC certification guarantees that the paper we purchase is made from pulp exclusively from sustainably managed forests. This means that forest resources are protected, and careful consideration is given to the economic and social well-being of the affected population.

PCF (Process Chlorine Free)
This means that the paper is manufactured entirely without the use of chlorine in the bleaching process.

EU Ecolabel
The EU Ecolabel is a European certification governed by the European Commission, with independent and impartial organizations. Together, they are responsible for implementation at the national level. The EU Ecolabel guarantees a low environmental impact during paper manufacturing. This means low air and water emissions, reduced electricity consumption, and minimal waste.

Nordic Eco Label
(Nordic Ecolabel) certification and criteria are determined by the Nordic Ecolabelling Board. In the case of paper, the initial criteria only set three requirements for low emissions: sulfur to air, chlorinated organic compounds, and oxygen-consuming substances to water. These criteria have since been tightened several times and today form a comprehensive and extensive document.

ISO 9001 certifiering
Our supplier of printed materials is certified according to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Blue Angel
The ink we use to produce temporary tattoos is Blue Angel certified. This is a label that shows the product has a lower environmental impact and meets high standards when it comes to protecting human health. However, it also places high demands on quality!

Transport
At Like Ink, we produce all tattoos in Malmö, Sweden.

We make a few large purchases of the materials we consume per year to reduce unnecessary transportation. Malmö is a smaller city, and skateboards and bicycles are the obvious means of transportation when we move between the printing house, meetings, and offices. In addition to physical meetings in Malmö, as e-commerce operators, we are used to handling communication digitally.

For deliveries/transportation to our customers, and there are quite a few, we have collaborated with Postnord for many years. At Like Ink, we climate compensate for all shipments, envelopes, and printed materials. It’s an obvious choice.

Postnord’s environmental efforts reach the gold level in IPC’s annual ranking. Postnord is committed to reducing its own, suppliers’, and customers’ environmental impact, and the same applies to us at Like Ink. Postnord’s ambitions are to aim for a fossil-free 2030.

Servers and domains
Just like us humans, our beautiful webshop needs an address and a place to live!

We use Oderland, which is part of The Green Web Foundation, for all hosting, and for Oderland, reducing our climate footprint is a priority. Like Ink uses a fully virtualized hosting environment. The above also applies to Loopia, one of Like Ink’s domain suppliers.

In addition to this, we have had two companies that work with safety assessments of cosmetic products make their evaluations. Both assess that Like Ink meets current legislation and that our tattoos are safe to use.

How do I recycle a temporary tattoo?
The protective plastic that is removed before application: Recycle as plastic.

The paper that comes off when you apply the tattoo: Recycle as paper.

The temporary tattoo will flake off bit by bit, and it’s perfectly fine not to recycle it. If you wash off the temporary tattoo, you will end up with a small amount of color and adhesive – dispose of this in your household trash.
